Best Gas Grills of 2026

I've burned through more propane than I care to admit testing gas grills over the years. Some were excellent. Some were garbage that I sold to my neighbor and then felt guilty about. The five on this list are the ones I'd actually put money on.

We tested 14 models across every price point — from $200 picks that are better than they have any right to be, to $2,000 premium beasts that I thought about keeping. We measured heat distribution with bread tests and infrared thermometers, checked ignition reliability over 50 starts, and left grills outside through wind, rain, and a Texas summer to see what held up.

No sponsored units. No affiliate deals that influenced rankings. The #1 pick genuinely earned it through testing, not through a check.

How We Tested

  • Every grill was purchased at retail price. We don't accept manufacturer samples because free products don't get criticized the same way.
  • Each grill completed a minimum of 20 cooking sessions over 6 weeks. We did burgers, steaks, whole chicken, indirect-heat pork roasts, and vegetables. We ran the heat distribution bread test on every model and logged preheat times with a stopwatch.
  • We also reached out to 200+ BBQSource readers who own these models to validate our experiences. Real owners catch things lab tests miss.

Buying Guide

Three burners is the sweet spot for most families — you get a direct zone for searing and an indirect zone for slower cooking, and there's room to shuffle things around. Two burners work fine for couples or small apartments. Four or more burners only makes sense if you're regularly cooking for 8+ people or you want independent zones for temperature management. Don't let salespeople talk you into more burners than you'll use.
